My Gears

These two quotes are the greatest motivation to me when come to video making as a whole.

I do agree that equipment play a part in creating good and quality video. Equipment also do make the job easier for any video makers out there. With equipment, we can actually do more.

A person with a camera and a monopod is actually in better position with a person with a camera only. BUT, that doesn’t mean a person with a camera and a monopod will be able to create better video quality and shots than the person with just a camera. This is where, THE CAMERA IS AS GOOD AS THE PERSON BEHIND IT.

No doubt, equipment that I have invested have really help me produce better quality shots.

So, to video makers out who are still saving up to buy more gears, don’t despair. I hope the two quotes above will somehow inspire you to persevere.

Honestly, you guys may have read or been advised not to hugely invest on your equipment if you are only starting out.

This is my school of thoughts and approach. I only picked up videography beginning of 2012. Yes, I have been advised that I should not heavily invest in equipment first. I should be focusing more on practise and techniques.

The thing here is, I have been wanting to do videography for a long time. In the past, I do not have the means to do all this. Now, I have set my mind and I have a little bit of spare cash. So why not ?

I have invested a lot for the past month. What do I gain ?

  • Loss of my money and savings (in a good way though)
  • I can spend more time on practising. No need to wait to save up money and buy or even rent.
  • I read about techniques tonight and get down to practise tomorrow. Imagine if you do not have the equipment to practise. You got to wait.
  • Lack of storage space. Due to implusive buying. 🙂
  • Got nagged by my wife but she is very supportive still.

At the end of the day, you make your own decision. My only advise is whatever you want to do “Listen To Your Pocket”. And work around it.

You may want to know where I got my stuffs.

At the end of the day, it is not about the equipment that makes you an outstanding video maker. It is how you make those stories and pictures in your mind become a reality and put it up on the big screen for everyone to see. Equipment is there to help you achieve your dreams.

It is all about your interpretation of things.

  1. nice gear set. you’ve just started and you have more than I do. :/ but with the stuff you have, should be able to get quite some outstanding images.

  2. Alfian>>> Having owned these equipments doesn’t make me a fantastic videographer. It just make my learning easier and faster. I am just pursuing my interests which I lost the plot 15 years ago. I am rekindling my interest. I enjoyed every moment of it.
